Big bay & Karma’s

Big Bay

Big Bay is a 30 min north for Cape Town International Airport. Cape Town is one of the best kitesurfing destinations worldwide in its windy session.

Professionals from all over the globe come to Cape town to train for kitesurfing events here.

Big bay is actually a pretty small bay surrounded by rocks, but a very safe place to go have fun. The waves do not have too much push and it is a great place if you are an inexperienced wave rider because the wind closes a little onshore. Great place for big airs and wave riding. The best wind direction is SE to S.

You need a westerly swell to get some waves. If it is SE it will be flat. The go further south.

Big bay is one of the most popular spots to kitesurf in Cape town. Big bay is known for strong winds, flat sections between the waves and great waves that are sheltered by the rocks. Mornings, before the wind picks up, you get small to medium glassy waves.

Big bay is a favorite for kitesurfers, surfers, windsurfers, SUP, bodyboarders and anybody who is looking for a good day at the beach.

To check the best wind and wave conditions, go to either Windguru or Windfinder. These are the most popular and most used forecast systems in Cape Town.

This bay is full of life. Full of restaurants, supermarkets, clothes/surf/kitesurfing shops.

And after you have seen the beautiful sunset, you can go enjoy the nightlife in and around Blouberg. The city center of Cape Town is also only 30 min drive away.

The beach is easily accessible. There are many parking spaces and the beach is 1 min away. Big bay can become very crowded, especially during the summer weekends.

Big Bay is one of my favorite spots.
